One of Ireland’s most popular attractions is the Cliffs of Moher. Located in County Clare, the cliffs attract millions of visitors every year and are part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks. The cliffs are an annual breeding site of more than 20 bird species.
Towering over 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, the Cliffs of Moher cover about five miles of coastline and offer breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding countryside. Visitors can hear stories of the cliffs on walks through Doolin, the closest city.
The folklore of the cliffs includes stories of a lost underwater city and a fisherman who fell in love with a mermaid. These stories add to the atmosphere of the cliffs and provide visitors with interest in addition to the scenery.
